Neighbors: Concerns About Grandview Park Trail Restoration

Often referred to as "Turtle Hill," the summit with panoramic views atop Grandview Park, accessed by a mosaic stairway, will hopefully become safer and more accessible as a trail restoration project is planned. But members of the Golden Gate Heights Neighborhood Association (GGNRA) have serious reservations about the process in which the SF Recreation and Park Department has proceeded thus far.

Dursts: 'Till Death Do Us Part in Marriage and Comedy

Political comedian Will Durst and his wife Debi, also a comedian (of the improv variety), stroll into Howard's Cafe on Ninth Avenue and Irving Street like they own the joint. It is one of their five or six favorite neighborhood haunts - homes away from home. The unpretentious eatery suits the couple to a T because it is the kind of place that serves classic American fare.

New Captain Takes Helm at Taraval Police Station

Captain John Sanford's desk at Taraval Station is consumed by tilting stacks of paper. Since replacing previous Capt. Denise Schmitt, who has been promoted to commander, and moving to Taraval Station, Sanford has been working 16-hour days and has hardly any time to breathe.

New Resource Center Opens on Noriega

A new resource for non-English speaking people opened in the Sunset District in August.

South Sunset Plgd. Overhaul Plan in Works

With municipal funding dwindling as the current economic recession continues, neighborhoods are being encouraged to help fill in the gaps. Such is the situation with the South Sunset Playground Clubhouse and Senior Center.

16th Ave. Tiled Steps' Anniversary

Thousands of visitors from around the world have descended upon the Golden Gate Heights to see the ornate tiled steps stairway that climbs above the intersection at 16th Avenue and Moraga Street.
