Academy Volunteers Find Satisfaction in Helping Others Grow, Learn

Jerry Dow, a retired San Franciscan, has been a docent with California Academy of Sciences for more than 11 years. He was one of the first volunteers to take Highlight Training, which is a program designed to give visitors an overview of the exhibits in the museum. Dow then went on to become a docent because of his love for science and his desire to make an impact in the community.

Local Professor Publishes New Book after Spiritual Exploration

Type in the name "Steve Georgiou" for a Google web search and the London pop singer Cat Stevens comes up because his birth name is Steven D. Georgiou. Coincidentally, a Sunset District native's name also comes up because, like Cat Stevens, he was born with the Steven Georgiou namesake. And, like Cat Stevens, the Georgiou from San Francisco has followed a spiritual and creative path.
