Burglary: Jan. 9, 6400 Block of Fulton Street
A suspect entered a residence via a rear window and took cash, before fleeing.
A subsequent investigation by plainclothes officers determined a suspect. When
fingerprints of the suspect and those left at the scene of the crime were analyzed,
it was determined that the two were one in the same. The suspect was located
on Jan. 19 and arrested for the crime.
Arson: Jan. 10, 1:22 a.m., 5100 Block of Geary Boulevard
A call to dispatch reported a man trying to set a garbage can on fire. When
officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the suspect holding a bottle
of scotch in one hand and a lighter in the other. The lighter was sparking paper
refuse in the can. The SF Fire Department responded to put out the fire and
the man was arrested.
Vandalism: Jan. 21, 4:40 a.m., 15th Avenue and Clement Street
Plainclothes officers observed a person pacing back and forth looking into the
windows of parked cars and businesses. The suspect took a can of spray paint
out of a backpack and started spraying a roll-up door at a local business. The
26-year-old suspect, who had other spray cans in his possession as well, was
arrested.
Grand Theft, Possession of Stolen Property: Jan. 19, 3:45 a.m., Golden Gate
Park
A city park ranger stopped a man who was going into the bushes near Middle Drive
West and Transverse Drive to see what was happening. The 55-year-old suspect
said he was retrieving his bicycle, but when the officer investigated, he discovered
a bicycle trailer loaded with eight rolls of copper wire in the bushes. San
Francisco police officers were called to take custody of the suspect. In the
area there were several covers removed from wire junction boxes and evidence
that some of the wires were cut. The suspect said he had only done this type
of activity once before. He was taken to the police station and booked.
Battery, Trespassing, Driving on a Suspended License: Jan. 6, 6:10 p.m.,
Lake Street and Arguello Boulevard
A man who was frustrated with the parking situation in his neighborhood approached
a security guard working at a religious institution and blamed the institution's
patrons for the problem. The 33-year-old suspect pushed the guard, causing a
table and a metal detector to crash to the ground, and fled. Almost two hours
later, the suspect returned to the scene of the crime and yelled at the security
guard. This time, officers quickly located the man driving westbound on Lake
Street and arrested him on numerous charges.
Robbery, Assault: Jan. 13, 2:27 p.m., 700 Block of Arguello Boulevard
Officers responded to a report of an assault-in-progress and interviewed a store
employee, who had been punched as he attempted to stop four suspects from stealing
beer. The suspects knocked the man to the ground and fled in a van with the
purloined beer. Officers searching the area discovered the suspected get-away
vehicle driving on Fulton Street near 43rd Avenue. After enacting a traffic
stop, the suspects were positively identified and the beer was recovered. Three
males were charged with robbery and one was charged for violating his parole
conditions.
Fraud: Jan. 16, 2500 Block of Turk Street
Two reports came in from people who had made a small donation to a school fundraising
effort - an effort that did not exist. Two suspects, claiming to be college
students, said they were raising money to pay for a trip to England to study
broadcasting. But the school said no such program exists and that several other
people had called to verify the legitimacy of the donation.
Hot Prowl: Jan. 21, 10:30 a.m., 3200 Block of Clay Street
A man was awakened by the sound of someone on a fire escape trying to pry open
a window. When he walked by the bathroom, he could see someone's foot coming
through an open window. The suspect heard the resident and left, exiting through
an open window into a common area and then out of the building.
