St. Mary's Foundation Honors
The St. Mary's Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors recently honored
the members of the hospital's auxiliary and physician Garnet F. Wynne Jr., MD
at its annual find-raising dinner. The event raised more than $189,000 for the
hospital.
Wynne, who retired in December 2005, was recognized as an orthopedic surgeon and a founding member of St. Mary's Orthopedic Residency Program.
Free Summer Lunches for Youth
With one in four youth citywide facing hunger as a real and persistent threat,
the City is providing free lunches for youth up to 18 years of age through Aug.
18. In San Francisco, there are 35,000 low-income children who qualify for free
breakfasts and lunches during the school year.
The summer free lunch effort is being spearheaded by the SF Department of Children, Youth and Their Families, the USDA, and the California Department of Education.
Lunch locations on the west side include: Roosevelt and A.P. Giannini middle schools; George Peabody and Francis Scott Key elementary schools, Merced Heights Playground, and Sunset Youth Services.

Campus Comes Alive
Richmond District artist Stev Sechovec helped paint a dragon mural at Frank
McCoppin Elementary School, located at 651 Sixth Ave.
The project was one of several undertaken by students to beautify their campus. Students, parents and teachers also repainted fences and lines on the schoolyard and pruned weeds and bushes.
City Officials Hit the Streets
City officials, including SF Mayor Gavin Newsom, walked the streets of the Inner
Richmond District July 6 to hear the concerns of local merchants. Joining the
mayor were several members of the SF Small Business Commission and representatives
of several city departments.
Aside from hearing concerns, the contingent of city workers handed out information and answered numerous merchant queries.
